RED CLOVER

red cloverRed Clover (Trifolium Pratense) is a perennial herb that grows wild in meadows throughout Europe and Asia, and today has been developed to flourish in North America. Red Clover's medicinal properties are located in the flowers which sit atop its branched stems.

HOW DOES RED CLOVER WORK?

Red Clover increases low levels of estrogen (a key hormone that plays a role in several bodily processes) by supplying the body with phytoestrogens, botanical compounds with a chemical structure very similar to that of human estrogen.

WHAT IS RED CLOVER USED FOR?

Traditionally used as a cold remedy, today Red Clover is prescribed with great success for alleviating menopause symptoms. Red Clover flowers are one of the most concentrated sources of phytoestrogens, making it a powerful weapon against several menopause symptoms including hot flashes, mood swings, depression and osteoporosis.

Red Clover relieves these menopause symptoms:

         • Hot Flashes.
         • Mood Swings.
         • Osteoporosis.
         • Skin Inflammations.
         • Asthma.
         • Depression.
         • Bronchitis.
         • Spasmodic coughing.

CONCLUSIONS ABOUT RED CLOVER

Red Clover is great for treating menopause symptoms, but this Phytoestrogenic herb has been criticized because it adds artificial hormones to the body. In so doing, Red Clover can trigger side effects, including serious problems like breast cancer.

Other alternative treatments are just as helpful as Red Clover, but without the side effects. Non-estrogenic herbs, for example, are a great option for treating menopause symptoms. Read more in the following article.

PROS AND CONS FOR USING
RED CLOVER FOR MENOPAUSE

PROS

Red Clover relieves menopause symptoms efficiently. Red Clover is great as a short-term treatment for alleviating menopausal symptoms, especially hot flashes and mood swings.

Red Clover is a good alternative to HRT. The phytoestrogens in Red Clover can compensate for estrogen loss in menopausal women. Use of Red Clover thus has almost the same benefits as HRT, but is less expensive.

Red Clover has several health benefits besides relieving menopause. Red Clover is also used to alleviate PMS, arthritis, and to lower blood pressure.

CONS

Red Clover stimulates cancer and strokes. Medical studies have revealed that Phytoestrogens in Red Clover may stimulate the spread of breast and uterine cancer cells and provoke strokes and liver disease.

Red Clover has contraindications with medication. Red Clover cannot be used in conjunction with oral contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy. It should not be used by women who are allergic to aspirin.

Red Clover might cause infertility. The consumption of large amounts of Red Clover in short periods of time has been noted to decrease fertility. As no long-term study has proven the safety of Red Clover, it should be used with caution and only for short periods.

What herb should women try? Nowadays women are looking for relief from their menopause symptoms with herbs, phytoestrogenic herbs and non estrogenic herbs are good in relieving menopause symptoms, but recent studies show that non estrogenic herbs have cero side effect because they help your body to produce its own hormones instead of introducing hormones like the phytoestrogenic ones.
